A side project after I got obsessed with Cyberpunk 2077.
Inspired by a 3D printable Rick Grimes by Tom Davis, and reengineered from my Sentinel Spider-Man figure.
I ripped the model of Johnny from the game using tutorials I found online. I took him into ZBrush, remeshed, and sculpted the details back in. I used booleans to create and intersect the joints with the model, then 3D printed and assembled him.
It took two attempts - initially, I based the joints on the Rick Grimes files and less poseable Marvel Legends 6" figures (the kind my Killmonger figure is). This led to a stiffer, less poseable figure with more hinge joints, and I printed him a little too small.
On my second attempt, I redesigned more joints to follow the ball-and-socket way the Sentinel figure is designed. These were much more fragile, and some of the joints ended up a bit loose in the end. But they created a very flexible figure that I was happy to paint on. He now sits on my shelf, judging me.
Johnny Mark I (left) vs Mark II (right).
Mark II has a narrower waist, rounder abdominal piece, allowing for more bending of the torso; rounder and longer knee and elbow joints, allowing for more than 90 degree knee bends; and the shoulders are completely redesigned to be 1 ball and socket instead of the two pieces of the Mark I.
